Know your objective: Establish your objective in advance with the Executive Topics - Education, AWIM, Prof. Development, Local Needs Your Homework What is Important to the Company Find what personal interests the person has Company Profile SAE Refresher – know what SAE is doing right now Research Companies in your section Approach key people to attend a meeting or lunch Consider SAE as a neutral forum Taylor the message to the meeting and company Say thank you to the admin and executive Follow up - keep the door open with a follow up meeting Make the offer - is there any information I can provide or would you like me to draft a letter to the appropriate person if that was discussed Keep Exec involved - Invite to a meeting Look for WIN- WIN situations All people at meeting must have a role(max 2-3 people) Admin needs to know in advance if any employee will be present Hadouts should be only 1 to 2 pages Section Chair MUST be present Focus on needs 10 – 15 minutes (no more, end early) Focus on opportunities to the company (big or small) Secure Executive’s Commitment and ask for other employees to work with(Implement) Walk in there unless you are 100% prepared – only get 1 shot Have friend inside company sell the same thing that you are going to sell Have to many people NO PowerPoint presentation Leverage one company against another company Do not give confidential information about other companies and DONT’s DO’s
