  3. Ancient Egyptian Art • The civilization began in 3150 BC with the first pharaoh • Art served many purposes. Can you think what some of these purposes could be?

  4. Ancient Religion • Their beliefs were very important to their lives • One of the most unique aspects of their religion was mummification • Mummification was necessary for immortality because it was the home of the spirit in the afterlife. • Without the body, the spirit would wander

  6. Canopic jars • These jars were used to preserve the organs for the afterlife. • The four sons of Horus (the falcon-sky god who watches over the earth) represent the jars • They protected the liver, lungs, stomach, and intestines • The heart was kept inside the body • The brain was thrown away
