What is Multimedia? • Multimedia is the combination of the following elements: text, color, graphics, animations, audio, and video. • Multimedia Software refers to any computer-based presentation or application software that uses multimedia elements. • Interactive multimedia describes a multimedia application that accepts input from the user by means of a keyboard, voice or a pointing device such as a mouse and performs an action in response.
What are the benefits of Multimedia? • Most interactive multimedia applications allow you to move through materials at your own pace. • As you progress through the application or complete certain tasks, you receive feedback in the form of a sound, points, or other response.
What about for education? • The ability of users to interact with a multimedia application is perhaps its most unique and important feature. • This feature has the potential to change dramatically the way K-12 students learn.
More benefits • Interactive multimedia allows students to define their own learning paths, investigate topics in-depth and get immediate feedback from drill-and-practice or exploration activities. • Multimedia applications also tend to engage and challenge students, thus encouraging them to think creatively and independently.
