  1. The Effective Disciple Demands and Habits

  2. 13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve--designating them apostles--that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons. Mark 3:13-15 (NIV)

  3. Opening the Windows • How does our society success? • How do you define success? • Whose voice do you often obey? • Are your habits enhancing or inhibiting your growth and development?

  4. What Is Going on Inside? • 22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. "Never, Lord!" he said. "This shall never happen to you!" 23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men." Matthew 16:21-23 (NIV) • 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:5-7 (NKJV)

  5. Beginning the Journey: The Shift Inside

  6. The Demands of Discipleship

  7. Submission – Mary • The call to discipleship would always come as an interruption. How should we respond: • Recognize • Surrender • Honour • Worship.

  8. Loving – Phinehas(Numbers 25:1-11) • You cannot say “I care” and then do nothing. Care is the key test for the presence of love in a relationship. Care is about attending to the beloved welfare and best interests as faithfully and as consistently as we attend to our own. • Admire, Adore, Appreciate • Protect • Promote

  9. Trust - Abraham • God wants to be the first. If He is not made the Lord of all then He is not the Lord at all. • Forsaking • Leaving • Following • Serving

  10. Understanding – Mary of Bethany • God always take us out to be with him before he sends us out to work for Him. • Available • Listen • Learn • Abide

  11. Maturing as a Disciples: Habits of Effective Disciples • Worship • ‘Scriptureful’ • Prayer • Solitude • Service • Life Long Learning – Discipleship Resources
