What is Math XL for School? • An on-line program that… • Pre-assesses students prior to each unit. • Creates individualized homework assignments. • Offers help tools to students while completing HW. • Provides short videos that overview each section of the unit (particularly helpful to students when absent). • Generates assessments that are unique to each student. • Records results for student and teacher access. • Grades assessments while giving teachers flexibility in adjusting scores.
How do I gain access? • Review handout to create a teacher account. • Provide students with a handout when it is their turn to register. • I have provided the 30-day trial registration code. If you find that this system works for you, you may purchase registrations for your students, or have them purchase them individually.
Creating a Course • First, create a course as a coordinator. • Go to Course Manager. • Create a Course. • Type of Course: Coordinator • Name of Course: (Your Choice) • Choose your book, or a universal course. • Determine your settings.
Creating Assignments • Once your course is created, you may begin creating assignments. • Pre-Assessments • Quizzes • Review Assignments • Tests
Study Plan = Homework • Sectional videos • Individualized plan based on Pre-Assessment • Quiz Me - Mastery Quizzes option • Help options for each question • Completion of assignment (Progress Bar) • Checking homework
Member Courses • Coordinator course is the overarching course. • Member courses link to coordinator course. • You can create assessments on the coordinator course, and then have member courses for each section. • All assignments in the coordinator course gets distributed to member courses. • In addition, assignments specific to a section can be added directly to the member course.
Organizing a Class • Teach students how to use the system. • Establish rules for completion of assignments. • Explain alternatives to on-line completion (printing assignments, alternate assessments, etc.). • Check your e-mail prior to class to know which concepts to review. • Be prepared for extra classroom time! • Reserve media center/computer lab time, as needed.
