  1. Moshi Masters One of the things Michael Acton Smith mentioned in his presentation was how boys leave the brand sooner as they go on to focus on sports e.g football. I think this is a great area of opportunity for them, and instead of just letting the boys go they could incorporate this love of sports. In a Guardian interview last week, he also said:"Where I see more our competitors emerging from are definitely in the App Store, everything from Talking Tom to Temple Run to Angry Birds, these extraordinary apps getting tens of millions of downloads," said Acton Smith during his speech. "That's where kids are spending a lot of their time these days."

  2. Moshi Masters BENEFITS: Keeping boys interested longer as they would combine football with their interest in moshi A way of getting boys and their dads/older brothers/ friends etc to share an interest and get involved in moshi Apps are a growing market and generate huge revenue Opportunity for moshi matches, friends’smoshi teams playing against each other in virtual leagues Can somehow be linked to real life football e.g. collaboration with a club (e.g. Manchester United), sports outlet (e.g. Sports Direct), venue (e.g. Emirates Stadium) etc Opportunity to run summer football camps off the back of it, if can get celebrity endorsement? Fantasy sports are a growing market and are currently generating huge revenues for those involved, with the prediction that this is just to increase rather than die out

  3. Moshi Masters PROOF OF REVENUE OPPORTUNITY: According to Forbes, the virtual sports market will be worth $1.7 billion by 2017 (Source: Forbes, The Rich Reality Of Fantasy Sports: A $1.7B Industry By 2017). Tablet computers are growing fast in popularity, becoming a must-have device for children of all ages. The use of tablets has tripled among 5-15s since 2012 (42%, up from 14%), and one quarter (28%) of infants aged 3-4 now use a tablet computer at home.

  4. Moshi Masters FOCUS ONLY ON DEVELOPING iOS & ANDROID APPS TO KEEP INITIAL COSTS DOWN, BUT ALSO CAPTURE 87.5% OF THE MARKET: App store downloads are expected to rise from 64 billion in 2012 to 102 billion in 2013, while in-app purchasing begins to account for a larger slice of overall revenue, and is forecast to reach $26bn this year. Apple and Google pretty much have the app store download world locked up for the next five years, according to figures published by analyst firm Gartner, which sees the two companies' stores accounting for 90 percent of 268 billion downloads set to be made in 2017. Gartner expects iOS and Android devices to account for 87.5 percent of the global installed base of smartphones and tablets in 2017, helping their two nearest rivals — Microsoft / Nokia and BlackBerry (if it’s still around then) — scrapping over the remaining 10 percent. This is proof if wouldn’t be financially viable to develop apps for Microsoft/Nokia/Blackberry at this stage, because the markets for these is in decline and would not have the potential to earn much money given the cost of the initial investment needed.

  5. Moshi Masters Over time, Gartner sees the mix of revenue between paid-for apps, app advertising and in-app purchases shifting significantly. While app developers have already realised in-app purchases can be lucrative — notably Finland's Supercell, maker of Clash of Clans, and Sweden's King.com, which is behind Candy Crush Saga — in 2013, paid-for apps will still account for 75 percent of total revenue, according to Gartner. However, revenues from paid-for apps are expected to fall below half of all revenue by 2016, as earnings from both in-app purchasing and advertising grow. By 2017, total revenues are expected to reach $76bn, with paid-for apps accounting for 37.8 percent, in-app purchases 48.2 percent, and advertising 14 percent.

  6. Moshi Masters Development Costs: £220,000 Including Design, Development, Project Management, Hosting Fees, Debugging, In-App purchasing capability, Sharing Capability (facebook, twitter etc) Revenue from download cost: £1.99 paid by end user Less % paid to Apple/Google etc: £0.66 Net Revenue to Moshi: £1.33 (Breakeven at 166,000 downloads approximately) Note, £1.99 based on average price of similar apps on Apple store. No ongoing costs such as upgrading, adding extra functionality, maintenance etc included at this stage, these are rough guidelines only. Also, no advertising revenue, in-app purchases etc accounted for until we know exactly what this app can do and what functionality it will offer

  7. Moshi Masters OTHER REVENUE OPPORTUNITIES: In-App Purchasing e.g. to purchase star players for your team, as well as links to purchasing actual Moshi Masters merchandise such as tees, shorts, footballs etc In-App Advertising by other child / football friendly companies Monthly Subscription Fees to enter competitions, receive updates, become part of moshi league etc. Integrate with Apple’s Game Center to access even more customers. Possibly offer a free trial version with limited functionality to get users hooked so they go on to purchase the full price app at £1.99 Not just boys, girls too! Twenty percent of Fantasy sports players are women, and the numbers of women are growing. Future potential – other sports, not just Football e.g. rugby, basketball etc
