Some of the rules for using google advanced efficiently • In the site or domain field, make sure you write .edu(you do need the period before the edu) – Language should be ENGLISH • In the region field, I prefer choosing the United States • If you are looking for Excel Spreadsheets or PPTs – then in the format field, choose those formats; if not, select ANY FORMAT (the default) • So make sure you write .edu in the site or domain field – this is what makes Google Advanced so powerful – will limit your search to the publications, research or output of Educational institutions.

  4. Let’s say you want to locate resources/materials on agriCUltural economics STATISTICS – and only WANT RESULTS from educational institutions. How would you do this?

  11. let’s say you are working with a class during black history month and they want to see PPTs done by educational institution on Rosa parks – here is how we structure our search – note that we choose PPTS in the FILETYPE FIELD FILE TYPE

  12. Now, let’s say you are looking for the latest lesson plans in physics – google advanced has just the answer for this! In the last update field, select past year using the down arrow – can also choose last month, past 24 hours, etc. see GREEN OVAL to see the last update field.

  16. FINALLY, let’s say you are teaching the novel, the great Gatsby, and want to see how other professors have taught it; in other words, you are searching for a video lecture. Make sure you set the limits to .edu – and structure the search as follows, then click on advanced search.

  17. HERE ARE THE RESULTS FROM THE GREAT GATSBY SEARCH: NOTE VIDEO COURSE LECTURES FROM YALE, CORNELL, MIT and many more. This gives you additional perspectives to consider as you teach this important 20th century novel.
