Frequency tables Basic descriptive tool namely for nominal and ordinal data (why not for cardinal?) A lot of info in one table (see below) Basic question: How many respondents belong to individual categories (counts or frequencies)
Frequency table - example E.G. 15 PEOPLE STRONGLY AGREE HOW MANY PEOPLE
Frequency table - example TOTAL NR. OF RESPONDENTS
Frequency table - example E.G. 2,3 % (15 PEOPLE) STRONGLY AGREE WHAT PROPORTION OF PEOPLE
Frequency table - example PROPORTION WITHOUT MISSINGS
Frequency table - example CUMULATIVE PROPORTION WITHOUT MISSINGS
Frequency table - missing FREQUENCY AND PERCENT IS COMPUTED FROM ALL CASES INCL. MISSINGS
Median and mode in fr. tables? Where we can find mode? Where we can find median?
Tables or charts? Alternative to freq. table: Pie chart Bar chart examples
Custom tables Alternative to frequency table – ANALYZE-TABLES-CUSTOM TABLES Possibility to merge more tables into one (stacking) : 1. All varibles into Row 2. Choose „Rowlabels in Columns“ (Category position – right down corner) 3. Change Summary Statistics (e.g. Row % - click on Apply to selection) Important note: For Custom tables is necessary to set all measurememts scales correctly (Variable View-Measure)
HW4 Try to prepare one frequency table for nominal or ordinal variable (EVS 99 data). Use bar chart for this variable. Interpret results.
