  20. Wildlife management areas (WMAs) are part of Minnesota's outdoor recreation system and are established to protect those lands and waters that have a high potential for wildlife production, public hunting, trapping, fishing, and other compatible recreational uses. They are the backbone to DNR's wildlife management efforts in Minnesota and are key to: • protecting wildlife habitat for future generations, • providing citizens with opportunities for hunting, fishing and wildlife watching, and • promoting important wildlife-based tourism in the state. What is a wildlife management area?

  21. How many WMAs are there and where are they located? As a result of more than 50 years of support by hunters, trappers, wildlife enthusiasts, and legislators, today there are over 1.3 million acres of high quality habitat in about 1,500 WMAs located throughout the state, making it one of the best and largest WMA systems in the country. • In the past few years our Isanti County Pheasants Forever Chapter has been involved in working with others to acquire and develop WMAs. Some of these locations include: • Kelly Lake – 274 acres at County Road 5 and 303rd Avenue • Kelly Lake addition – 40 acres • Bethel WMA – 754 acres at west of Bethel on County Road 24

  22. Erickson-Lindstrom WMA – 300 acres, southeast of Mora Dalbo WMA – partnered with Kanabec County PF and secured a permanent easement adjoining two parts of the Dalbo WMA Grass Lake Eleanor WMA – located in Kandyohi County, partnered with various other PF chapters to acquire 72 acres including lakeshore. Carlos Avery Addition – 212 acres, northern Anoka County Hoffman Lake – newly acquired in 2017 and has not been dedicated as of yet, located in southeastern Isanti County. This WMA will have a primitive access to Hoffman Lake (previously this was landlocked). Kunkel WMA – west of Princeton and south of Highway 95. Dalbo WMA Addition – In the works if funding is available from the the Lessard/Sams Heritage. We will know when we apply for the grant in September (80 acres).

  23. At the 2016 banquet, our members voted to put our habitat monies in: • 36.5% Food plots on Wildlife Management Areas for all to use and enjoy. • 47.5% on Land Acquisitions to add on to adjacent (current) wildlife management areas. • 16% on Native prairie restoration on private property.

  25. Planting corn, beans, grain sorghum and other habitat-improving “crops” will increase nesting, loafing and feeding our wildlife.

  26. Wildflower plantings are just some of the ways we continue to develop our WMA lands…

  27. Isanti County Pheasants Forever is Happy to announce our first Land Acquisition closed yesterday. It is an 84 acre parcel that is adjacent to the 3200 acre Dalbo Wildlife Management Area. This would not have been possible without the help of Pheasants Forever National , Isanti County Sportsmans Club, Ruffed Grouse Society, Isanti County MDHA , Kandiyohi Pheasants Forever, Anoka County Pheasants Forever, Sherburne County Pheasants Forever, National Wild Turkey Federation, Isanti County Pheasants Forever.
