  2. Department Vision Statement To be a leading model in innovative and reliable communications where community members are engaged in the NISD culture. Department Mission Statement The NISD Communications Department will inform and promote news in a timely manner, while embracing innovative technology, engaging the community, and positioning NISD as a premier school district.

  3. Department Goals • Provide communication in a variety of methods. • Research new methods of communications. • Provide timely, honest communications.

  7. We Have an App for That! • Apple and Android devices • Released in October/January • 9,326 downloads • This number has doubled since January between the release of Phase 1 and 2.

(features district news) • NET Beats (music videos on educational topics) • Creating new look for The NET (five year marketing) • Feature to come: Where Are They Now?

  12. Media Relations In the News… • Approximately 100 stories in the news (not including sports) • Implemented news monitoring service • Provided media crisis training for 80 administrators in two years. • Encourage visits to online newsroom • www.nisdtx.org/newsroom

  13. How do we support campus communications? • Share good news throughout the district and to local media. Encourage use of online “Tell Us Your News” form. • Support campus personnel in crises and emergencies. • Provide training/staff development/ encouragement.

  14. Support and Assist Others • Write messages to include on campus/department web pages • Prepare scripts for School Messenger • Provide district-wide messages for campus newsletters • Support others with publication design and special printing • Respond to the online “Tell Us Your News” form and campus communications requests.

Survey Says… • Parent Survey in February 2013 • 2,500 responses • 94% feel safe at school • 90% feel adequately informed • Staff Survey in December 2013 • 71% response rate • 90% positive response rate • 97% agree they are proud to work for NISD. • Next survey in 2015 • Parent Survey in 2014-15

  16. Partners in Education • School Supply Drive helped more than 850 students • Angel Tree provided gifts for more than 680 students • Hosted 406 readers at Northwest Reads • Lakeview Elementary volunteers logged 8,605 hours from July to April, equivalent to $201,357 • 4,752 Total PTA Members

Public Information Requests • Texas Government Code, Chapter 552 • The public has the right to government records • We may NOT ask why the requestor wants the record • We must respond promptly, within 10 working days • Process • Submit request in writing • Research information, provide response/materials, or seek AG ruling within 10 days • Consult with district lawyers and Attorney General as necessary
