Aims • To establish the proportion of overweight and obese children aged 2-16 years attending hospitals for procedures under general anaesthesia across the PEACHY registered sites in the UK • To establish whether obese children are at increased risk of defined adverse perioperative events as compared to their healthy weight counterparts in this study population. • To assess variation in perioperative paracetamol dosing for overweight and obese children in the study population.

  5. Methods • 7-day data collection period • National data collection window: Monday 9thth Sept to Sunday 6th Oct • Capture every child having an anaesthetic aged 2-16 years and > 12kg • Data will be collected from theatres and the post-op recovery area • Trainee led data collection (with R&D study set-up support) • Local study dates: ______________________________ • Data will be uploaded to REDCap database by trainees • REDCap deadline 8th November 2019

  6. Case report form (CRF) • Anaesthetists complete 1 per patient • Must include weight (kg) • Must include height (cm) • PACU staff to complete PACU info • Assign unique study no. when upload to REDCap

  7. Who’s included Inclusions • All children aged 2 – 16 years having a general anaesthetic within the study period • Weight > 12 Kg • Remote sites such as MRI / IR / CT and endoscopy • Elective, day case and emergency cases • Oncology and dental cases • Private cases occurring in NHS hospital Exclusions • Children having procedures under local / regional anaesthesia or sedation • Children having a general anaesthetic for surgery on the neonatal intensive care unit or PICU • Children requiring general anaesthesia as part of their intensive care treatment only • Children who are already anaesthetised in the intensive care setting being transferred for a scan or procedure without any intervention to their airway planned
