Ratings vs. Rankings • Ratings are not dependent on the performance of other institutions • Performance measured against preset thresholds • The evaluation of each participating institution can be more thorough • Ratings can be more adaptive • Contextual differences • Recognition of specialties • Ratings can include components not easily included in rankings
