Aerial Billboards Airborne Outdoor Advertising was established in 2000 and is the only South African company with a proven track record of aerial media and giant helicopter banners. We have experience both nationally and internationally. Approved by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Airborne is the only system with a South African Civil Aviation STC type certificate. Airborne also has approval for operations by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
One Banner • The power of this medium is that one banner can be designed and flown almost anywhere across the country. • We have the necessary trained pilots and machines in each region to provide an excellent national campaign. • The banner can be designed in such a way that we can create the “call to action” at the bottom, therefore, eliminating the need to make more than one banner for each region/campaign etc. • Airborne billboards can be created landscape, portrait or square. • This medium is ideal for product launches, short term promotions, holiday campaigns, sports event marketing and even film shoots.
Banner Production • Aerial billboards can range in size from 100m² to 750m² • Guaranteed for three years or 50 flying hours. 225m² banner - 15m x 15m = R 38,000 375m² banner - 15m x 25m = R 49,600 600m² banner - 20m x 30m = R 87,000 800m² banner - 23m x 34m = R122,000 (rec’d) 1000m² banner - 25m x 40m = R156,000 Our Terms of Business are that upon confirmation of order, we will send you an invoice for 50% of the production costs as a deposit. Upon completion of production and prior to the commencement of the flying, we require payment of the balance of the production costs.
No Fly No Charge “No Fly No Charge”– the beauty of our medium is such that it is “self-regulating” by this we mean, if the weather is stunning then conditions are good for both the pilot and the customer on the ground. If it’s raining cats & dogs or the South Easter is howling, there will be no one outside to see the banner!! Airborne reserves the right to assess the weather conditions and if it is not conducive to flying, the booking will be re-allocated to another date or event to safe guard both our pilots and our clients best interest.
Flying or Media Air Time • As we operate from any grassed field in close proximity to the event or area of operation, there is no wasted flying time from airports to the site! • The flying rate is calculated from the time the helicopter lifts off until it lands. • Standard Rate is R14,500 per hour (excluding agency commission and VAT) • The rate includes all costs including landing permissions, pilot, ground crews etc • Minimum flight booking is one hour • Packages can be negotiated for special rates based on hours booked or a regular event. • Rates outside South Africa are subject to quotation.
Logistics Logistical costs apply whenever we are away from Cape Town (our base): • BakkieHire approx. R 800.00 per day • Freighting of the banners between cities with SAA Cargo approx. R 600 – R 800 per flight (N.B. last minute decisions require express service) • Accommodation of Crew member (normally only one) approx. R 400 per night
Idea to Consider If you design a banner and/or ball (if used) with a message on it, whereby there is a prize or reward for identifying the message being flown (i.e SMS campaign), it creates an awesome additional buzz to the whole campaign. Inflatable balls can be dropped from the helicopter to add an extra dimension to the promotion. Example of Event Exposure • Super 12 Game – 15min exposure at start and end of game, plus 30mins during half time • Argus Cycle Tour – 2 hours uninterrupted flying time • Peak Hour Traffic and Beaches – the sky’s the limit!
