Housing • Homebuyer Education In September of 2008, Inter-Lakes Community Action Partnership (ICAP) announced its new program, Homebuyer Education (HBE), which is available to everyone in the community. Persons who are interested in gaining knowledge that will protect them as homeowners and assure that they get a fair deal when purchasing a home may want to complete the program. • ICAP’s HBE program is certified by HERO, the Homeownership Education Resource Organization. HERO, a South Dakota Housing Development Authority certification, provides ICAP with standards to assure that the HBE program is of the highest possible quality. There are no income guidelines and no charge to clients who wish to attend HBE. Activities and Facilities There are individual and family activities for personal fitness and fun. • Community Center • Aquatics Center – New in May 2009! • Skate Park - The City of Madison has added a new skate park at Westside Park, just west of the outdoor pool. The park is a "skate at your own risk" park and is open for all skaters. Rules for the skate park are posted and must be followed at all times. • Ice Rinks - Skating rinks will open for the season once temperatures are below freezing. Rinks are available at East Center and Totland Park. Opening date announced on KJAM and in the Madison Daily Leader.
Parks & Recreation • Recreational trails • Lake Herman State Park, a few miles from Madison, on Lake Herman, offers bike, walking, and fitness trials. • Also, a bike trail starts at South Egan Avenue (Flynn Field) and ends near Johnson’s Point Recreation Area. • Coming soon, the bike trail will extend from South Egan to Lake Herman State Park.
