Accreditation Tips • Logistics • Self-Study • Report and thereafter…
Logistics Considerations • Work with the review team to set the agenda early in the process • When making the hotel arrangements please keep in mind the federal per diem requirements • Plan to pick up the team at the airport upon arrival and spend time together that Sunday evening
Logistics Considerations (cont.) • If possible, start the week at the State Office/Lead Center • Use meal time wisely as this can be a good opportunity to meet with hosts, SBA, advisory board members or clients • Works best when meetings with key stakeholders are held early in the week • The team must see the SBA District Director & the person to whom the state/regional director reports
Logistics Considerations (cont.) • At least fifty percent (50%) of all office locations should be visited. • Bring in counselors & staff to more central locations so the team can meet as many of the SBDC employees as possible. • Thursday afternoon and evening are used to prepare the report summary and conclusions. Quite space is appreciated.
Preparing the Self Study • Up to 60 pages for the narrative • up to an additional 15 pages (for a total of 75 pages) when seeking Technology Accreditation • Succinct yet complete • Examples in narrative demonstrate understanding and evidence for standard • Maps with centers are helpful • Suggested Documents Guide identifies a variety of docs that could be included as attachments: more is better than less, but stay pertinent • Provide information electronically to the extent possible
Suggested Documentation Handout • ASBDC Website, Accreditation Section • Use as a guide, eliminate guesswork • Almost all documents should have already been developed and in use
