Removing Paving Blocks Presented by Roberto C. Contreras February 23, 2004
Nitrogen Oxide (Nox) are the exhaust gases from automobiles • Noxer is a new environmentally friendly concrete paving block developed to remove (Nox) from the air at the roadside • Contains Titanium oxide • The only energy source it uses is sunlight • Most effective if used in heavy traffic areas • Strength and slipping resistance are equal to standard interlocking blocks • A wide variety of shapes and colors are available
How does it work? • The paving works by setting up a photocatalytic reaction between titanium dioxide contained at the top 15 mm of the block and ultraviolet radiation from the sun. • Active Oxygen has a high oxidation efficiency and oxidizes NO(x) in the air into nitric acid • The nitric acid is then washed away by rain to allow more reactions • The reaction works both in dry and wet conditions
It was first tested in Osaka, Japan • Developed by Marshalls and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation Website Reference • www.mmc.co.jp • www.building.co.uk • www.concretequarterly.com
