  2. Policy and Procedures ·FFH (LOCAL)This policy addresses discrimination, harassment, and retaliation involving District students. ·Student Code of Conduct – Located under: DATING VIOLENCE, DISCRIMINATION, HARASSMENT, AND RETALIATION: Sexual Harassment and Gender Based Harassment

  3. Policy and Procedures • Gender-based harassment includes harassment based on a student’s gender, expression by the student of stereotypical characteristics associated with the student’s gender, or the student’s failure to conform to stereotypical behavior related to gender. • Examples of gender-based harassment directed against a student, regardless of the student’s or the harasser’s actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity, may include, but not be limited to, offensive jokes, name-calling, slurs, or rumors; physical aggression or assault; threatening or intimidating conduct; or other kinds of aggressive conduct such as theft or damage to property.

  4. Policy and Procedures • In May 2015, the U.S. Justice and Education departments instructed states that they would have to allow transgender students to use the bathroom matching their gender identity, biological sex notwithstanding. Noncompliance with the instruction could mean the loss of federal funding. The following states: Texas, Alabama, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Tennessee, Maine, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Utah, and Georgia have filed suit against the government, claiming the directive would cause "seismic changes in the operation of the nation's school districts."

  5. SISD Travel Policy UpdateStudent Travel Procedures & Forms 2016-2017 • Rooming lists are based on no more than four students per room. • Coaches/Directors/Sponsors have placed students equitably in rooms based on gender. When possible, student preference is considered. • Once rooming lists have been distributed, parent input will be considered and appropriate changes will be made. • Parents may request an additional room with double room occupancy but the requesting parent will incur the cost of the room.

UIL Constitution and Contest Rules • Section 360: Non-Discrimination Policy • Except as provided for below, no student otherwise eligible under Subchapter M of the Constitution shall be denied, because of disability, race, color, gender, religion or national origin, the equal opportunity: • To try out for and, if selected, participate in the Academic and Music Plan contests offered.

UIL Constitution and Contest Rules (cont.) • To try out for and, if selected, participate in the Cross Country, Golf, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Field or Wrestling individual Athletic Plans; except that school districts that offer any of these plans may not permit mixed plans for boys and girls; • To try out for and, if selected, participate in the corresponding Athletic Plans as follows: Boys' Basketball/ Girls' Basketball, Boys' Soccer and Girls' Soccer, etc. School districts that offer any of these plans may not permit boys to participate on girls' teams, nor girls to participate on boys' teams, nor permit mixed team participation;

UIL Constitution and Contest Rules (cont.) • Section 361: Exceptions to Non-Discrimination Policy • Only Girls eligible under Subchapter M of the Constitution may try out for and participate under the High School Athletic Plans Designated for girls' teams. • Only girls eligible under the Junior High Athletic Plan may tryout out for and participate under the Junior High Athletic plans designated for girls' teams. • Boys shall not wrestle against girls and vice versa.

  9. SISD Athletics • Sports programs will allow for special accommodations requested by student-athlete’s in cooperation with the head coach and parent/guardian. • Sports programs will utilize school registered names for the purpose of formal team announcement rosters and will allow for reasonable name change student-athlete’s request in cooperation with the head coach and parent/guardian. • SISD Athletic department will remain informed of federal, state and local guidelines regarding considerations and laws governing policies and procedures for transgender student-athlete’s.

  10. Guidance and Counseling • Never out any LGBT student. • Know where you stand on your feelings and thoughts with respect to LGBT students. • Bottom Line: We will always have different feelings and thoughts in this world, but we MUST ALWAYS RESPECT each other. • Counselors will train faculty and staff.

  11. Facility Accommodations • Each request will be addressed by administration to meet the needs of each individual student. • Communication • Extra Time • Permission Slip/Restroom Pass
