How to Buy the Perfect Suit? Ever wondered how to find the perfect suit that will last a lifetime? It’s no secret that Milap Gohel is The King of suits and tailoring in Adelaide. Growing up in a family of tailors, he was immersed in the industry from a young age while helping around his parents’ shop in India. One:“Check the tag! Take a look at the fabric content. A sign advertising 'well made' or 'wool suits' can be deceiving. If it says wool, you should make sure it’s actually wool and not mixed with a high plastic content (polyester). Good fabric is made of natural fibers that don’t break or ball easily and feel soft and smooth.” Two:“Name brands and European-made suits aren’t always higher quality, but you often pay more for them. The origin of the fabric used and the tailor who constructs it are the most important. When checking a suit’s construction, look at the stitching between seams. It should be strong but have a bit of give.” Three:“The trick to finding a good fit is all in the shoulders. If they’re too big or small, don't buy the suit as it’s very difficult and expensive to adjust later. From there, check that it looks fitted but not so tight there’s unsightly creasing.” Next, we asked Milap the number one style mistake he sees time and time again: “Clothes that don’t fit!” According to Milap, “You could wear the most expensive outfit in the world, but if it doesn't fit you may as well have gone to a hire store. The opposite is true too. There's nothing wrong with going to a second-hand shop or raiding your family’s wardrobe for a hidden gem, but make sure you bring it in to us for adjustments.” His final piece of advice? “The best suit for youis the one that fits the best.” To book a fitting at Knightsman Bespoke Tailors call (08) 8232 0404 or visit the tailors in person on the Lower Ground Level at Adelaide Central Plaza.
