  1. Reflection Statement Paul Santamore

  2. Reflecting On… • Readings (FIAE) - This book provided me with a ton of knowledge on how to grade in the differentiated classroom as well as how to create a positive classroom environment through student empowerment, opportunity creation, and tangible success. -By reading FIAE I learned that success does not come in the form of a letter grade and that it comes from standard completion, pride, and overall commitment to becoming a life long learner.

  3. Reflecting On… • Readings (Ubd/DI) -This text was a great textbook and outline on how to better prepare my lessons, units, and teaching. I learned that catoring to my students actual needs through a backward design model and differentiation is the way to go. -Success rates will soar for my students when this is implemented, because of its logical sequencing and ease of use. -It taught me to put the students first and ultimately before anything else because after all, they are why we teach and go to work every day.

  4. Reflecting On… • Readings (MI) -The concept of multiple intelligences is a vital theory to understanding how students process information, complete tasks, and ultimately, learn. -Although a very well laid out and thorough process, MI theory basically showed me that all people on this planet are smart, but none are smart in exactly the same way. We must cator to each person’s way of being smart in order to truly make them succeed and learn to love knowledge and education as a whole.

  5. Reflecting On… • Change of Major Process… -This was a very time consuming and difficult process for me. It was a thorough process that added loads of time management tasks and extra work onto my already busy semester, but it helped me to grow as a person. -Basically, I learned that taking my own path was accepted by my friends, family, and professors. -I learned that even through the toughest of life changes, I have people who constantly support and love me and that my dream of helping the needy and unfortunate can come true.

  6. Reflecting On… • Time Management Lessons… -Through various experiences this semester, most of them academic, I learned how to successfully budget my time, even better than I previously had, which was pretty good. -I saw that without a schedule and routine I was too stressed, unsettled, and off base in life. This sounds extreme, but practicum truly helped me to gain perspective on how I organize my life. -Now, I plan according to how much I have to get done in a week or a month rather than in a single day. This helps to see what is coming in the future and often saves me from stresses while providing me with opportunities to have fun and let loose.

  7. Reflecting On… • Professional Learning Community… -This semester, I developed connections with future and present professionals that I will have for a lifetime. These connections will help me to reflect on my professional life in the near future and for years to come through others who are experiencing the same trials and tribulations that I am. -Having reflective experiences will help me and my newly found professional friends to grow in ways not possible before this semester in practicum. We will be able to play off of each others’ ideas and learn from each and every one of them.

  8. Comparing To… • Essential Belief Statement… -Teaching is still something that I love and I will continue to do it for the rest of my life. -I am still passionate about culture, learning, and history and will continue to preach the importance of all of those to anyone who will listen. -Diversity is important to me and will be cherished wherever I end up in life. -My goal of learning something new each and every day was certainly accomplished this semester.

  9. Changes From… • Essential Belief Statement… -I no longer will be majoring in secondary education, but I will continue to educate many as I move through life. -My passion for helping those in need has only been strengthened through the development of my case study write up and other practicum experiences. -Practicum benefitted me in many ways that I never knew it would.

  10. Answering… • Why do you plan a unit and supporting lessons utilizing the backward design model? -To ensure that students understand what is expected of them and what they should take away from the unit. -In order to ensure that students are being fairly assessed and measured correctly in terms of learning goals, benchmarks, and standards. -So that each student’s individual needs, learning style, and multiple intelligence is able to be met and planned for ahead of time.

  11. Answering… • Why differentiate classroom instruction and assessments using current theories and pedagogies? -In order to provide for a fair learning environment for each student. -So that each student feel comfortable being themselves and putting all of their effort into learning the desired material so that they can meet the associated standards. -To increase the ability of students to accentuate their strengths while also working to improve their weaknesses.

  12. Answering… • How will you know if students clearly understand the content and have achieved the desired results? -I will know because they will complete performance tasks and benchmarks at a high level that are associated with government regulated standards and guidelines. -They will show mastery of the desired content through the given assessments and standard based assignments given out by me.

  13. What Grade do I Deserve… *Here are some reasons why I deserve an A… -I worked extremely hard this semester on every single assignment that was given to me and never took one second off from my regiment of hard work and commitment to the tasks associated with practicum. -Through the adversity associated with my major change I stayed strong, on track, and working at an overtly high level. -My work was always completed at a high level in all of the classes and I put in a lot of effort in the field in terms of connecting, relating, and teaching my students. -I learned everything that I could have hoped for about how to be an affective classroom teacher and many of the concepts will stay with me as I continue on with my individualized major in “Poverty, Policy, and Development”.

  14. How did my Thinking Change… • What I learned changed my thinking in these ways… -Working for the youth of our world should be the number one priority of all people. -Everybody is smart in some way; no one is dumb or stupid, because they can do something extraordinary and impressive with the right motivation, support, and positive reinforcement. -Many different approaches to education are possibly and should be used so that everybody can succeed.

  15. My Journey is… -I would like to thank my fellow practicum mates, professors, and friends for allowing me to change my mind so many times throughout my college career and this semester in particular. -Thank you practicum for teaching me many different ways of organization, education methods, and pedagogy. They will all be truly useful and evolutionary for me in the coming years. -Always remember that your journey and evolution is never complete. As seen in Buddhism, one’s journey is never ending and one should always pursue growth, evolution, and self-worth.
