Alice Walker was born on February 9, 1994 in Eatonton ,Georgia. Alice went to Sarah Lawrence college and later transferred to Spelmen college. She worked as a social worker and a teacher . Alice married Mel Leventhal on 1967. Nine years later they were divorced. Alice’s father earned only $300 a year from sharecropping and dairy farming. Her mom worked as a maid 11 hours for $17 per week to help pay for Alice to go to college. Background Information
Alice writes books about African Americans and what they went through. She wrote her second book four years before she became an editor for Ms. Magazine in 1974.
