The Present Participle • -ar verbs -ando • -er & -ir verbs iendo
Stem-Changers • Only–ir stem-change/boot verbs, stem-change in the present participle BUT with special stem changes: • e i (i.e. sentir, pedir, decir, venir, etc.) • o u (i.e. dormir, poder*) *exception
Spell Changers • When the stem of a an –ir verb (with the exception of verbs ending in –guir) or the stem of an –er verb ends in a vowel (i.e. traer, leer, contruir, oir), the ending is: –yendo NOT-iendo • The verb ir (to go) simply becomes yendo
Reflexive Verb Rules • The reflexive pronoun can come before estar, continuar, or seguir, OR attached to the present participle (an accent mark is needed on the 3rd vowel from the end to maintain stress) • Me estoy duchando o Estoy duchándome
