UNN Portal Management Team Introduction
Our Work Plan • Creation and editing of Student profiles • Changing, creation, retrieval and resetting of students passwords, • Upload of admission list and other admission related issues • Report generation as it concerns school fees, hostel allocation and so on • Upload of courses • Processing of add and drop cards • Class attendance list • Assignment of courses to lecturers • Other course related issues like management of minimum and maximum credit unit, deferments issues and so on.
Mile Stones Covered • We have created over 90% of the students’ profile • We have uploaded all the courses submitted by departments except some new programmes which we address as they come • We process add and drop issues using the approvals from HOD and evidence of payment for add and drop • We assist lecturers in downloading class attendance lists • Diploma Programme that has not been included in online course registration has been integrated fully into the system. • Many new programmes in the department of Linguistics and other Nigerian Languages like Linguistic and Igbo, Linguistic and Housa, Linguistic and Ibibio and so on has been successfully integrated into the system. • The issues of some students that made change of degrees and had problem of acceptance fee payment resolved.
Challenges • Viewing of previous courses registered by students • Viewing of previous payments • Making previous payments reflect in remittal format • Missing passports from students profiles • Arbitrary changes in levels • Ignorance of portal usage by students • Understaffing • Lack of working tools like laptop for one of the adhocs working with the team and other office equipments • Network problems
The Way Forward • Training students on portal usage • Integrating students old records with the new portal • Having a mirror database of students records in the portal to avoid a reoccurrence of the difficulty in integrating old students record with the new one • Equipping the members of portal management with enough user rights or privileges in the portal • Weekly or monthly interaction / meeting between Portal Management Team members and Tenece • Informing Portal Management Team of any decision taking on the portal
