Human Rights/Children’s Rights Human Rights Universal Declaration of Human Rights Inherent, universal rights of all human beings Inalienable, indivisible, independent Rights Based Approach which differentiates btwn Rights Holders (claim their rights) Duty Bearers (responsible to ensure respect of these right - govts), need to be held accountable Systems approach –advocacy for the fulfillment of the rights of all children – not special projects for disadvantaged groups Systemic approach The Rights Based Approach (RBA) is an approach to development that is supported by the UN as an integral means of conducting sustainable development. It is based on international human rights standards and is directed towards promoting, enforcing and protecting human rights. The aim of the RBA is to integrate established human rights standards into the discussions, policies, conventions, and processes that address development. From a human rights-based perspective -requires the identification of rightsholders (people entitled to claim civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights) and dutybearers (institutions that are responsible to ensure the respect of these rights). Systemic approach The Rights Based Approach (RBA) is an approach to development that is supported by the UN as an integral means of conducting sustainable development. It is based on international human rights standards and is directed towards promoting, enforcing and protecting human rights. The aim of the RBA is to integrate established human rights standards into the discussions, policies, conventions, and processes that address development.
