  3. Recap • A quick recap tonight! • Spend 10 minutes designing a two page web site for a local guest house • The Home page • A contact page • Hold up your post it note when completed Menu

Obtaining a domain name • Anyone can do this • You should consider your type of business and the name must be unique (and available!) • Most popular domains include .co.uk, .com, .net, .org • Co.uk names cost approx £6 for two years • .com can be up to £25 for two years • It is usual to purchase hosting at the same time and some packages will include 1 free domain name when you sign up for 1 year!   6. Design Exercise • Using the blank page templates you should look to plan at least 5 pages for your web site Menu

  7. Feedback forms • What is it? • Why use a feedback form? Menu

Feedback form exercise • In your table groups jot down at least three benefits of using such a feature in a web site • In the same groups discuss and produce a rough design and possible questions for a feedback form to be included in the twitch site • Having planned this page you can now add such a feature into your site Menu

  9. Your Turn Now! • Using the twitch web site (or the site from the first week), add a feedback form together with appropriate fields Menu

  10. Planning your design • You should now have experienced creating a rough design for at least one web page (twitch feedback form!) • What you should attempt now is to plan at least two pages for your project design • It is also a good time to start thinking about a domain name Menu

  12. CMS • What is it? • Joomla is the world’ s most popular open source CMS (content management system). With 2.7% of the Web running on Joomla, the software is used by individuals, small & medium-sized businesses, and large organizations worldwide to easily create & build a variety of websites & web-enabled applications. • Latest version is 1.7 although 1.5/1.6 are a little more user friendly for the novice Menu
