Indian Administrative Service – IAS exam is conducted as UPSC exam by the Union Public Service Commission. This is the top ranked competitive exam in India and also IAS is the top ranked career in Indian Public Services. It is conducted in three phases namely, Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam and Interview. Exam Pattern The preliminary exam consists of Two papers namely Paper 1 and Paper 2. Prelims exam is a qualifying exam and is not considered for the final IAS score. All are multiple choice questions. The mains exam has two parts, one is the qualifying one and the other one is counted for the score or merit formation. The qualifying paper will have two languages – one can be chosen by the candidate and the other is English. The next part is of 7 papers. Each paper will have 300 questions. Mains exam consists of both essay and multiple choice questions. The total marks of all the 7 papers along with the score of interview will be considered to provide a rank to the candidate.
IAS Syllabus Prelims Syllabus: The preliminary exam is conducted in two rounds – paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 is General awareness in which the candidate’s general knowledge is tested.
