Pre-implementation Stakeholder group • Pre-Directive post licence acquisition Driver Training – Unstructured • September 08 – 43 Operators and 92 specialist training providers approved to deliver period training PCV courses • September 09 – 70 Operators and 230 specialist training providers approved
Sept 08 –Sept 09 12,089 PCV training courses were delivered with an average of 8-10 Drivers on each • 11,086 by the Bus & Coach Operators and only 1003 by specialist training providers
Operators with a tradition of facilitating and paying Drivers to attend training • Operators who facilitate training but expect Driver to do it in own time • Operators who expect Driver to find and fund their own training
Major Operators have developed courses which benefit the business • Smaller Operators delivered training to their Drivers for the First Time • Drivers better equipped to deliver a safer quality service for passengers and to other road users
Challenges ahead • All 160,000 PCV Drivers achieving CPC by Sept 13 • All Operators to embrace CPC
