  2. Opportunity to share experiences of utilizing desktop videoconferencing communication • Small scale pilot study of student teachers undertaking a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education using desktop videoconferencing to communicate in small groups • Questions & wider discussion

  4. Health Professionals as Teachers • Experiences often limited • Develop familiarity/level of skill (quantity) • Explore the learning value of more interactive communication tools • Encourage student teachers to engage their own learners effectively – (quality)

Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education University of Bedfordshire •  Small scale pilot study – Jan – April 2011 • Use of desktop videoconferencing system housed within our Blackboard Virtual Learning Environment • Volunteer student teachers used system on a one to one (point to point) and one to many (multipoint) basis • Participation not compulsory but encouraged • Informal discussions -contact days - assessment

Trigger points •  Negative and positive experiences - using or planning to use videoconference communication technology •  How we might enhance individual levels of skill and familiarity? •  How helpful are e-learning experiences in preparing tutors to utilize communication technologies in their teaching? •  How might we further support and engage student teachers to utilize communication technologies in their teaching?

  8. Ultimately our aim is to develop teachers who have gained the skills to utilize technology in teaching effectively (quantity) • Utilizing student teachers own experiences as learners, might then utilize technologies more effectively to enhance (quality) for own learners
