WHY IS RECONCILIATION IMPORTANT? Trustis extremely low; Prejudiceis unacceptably high; Substantial economic, education and heath gap WITHOUT THE RIGHT ‘ENVIRONMENT’, PROGRESS ON CLOSING THE GAP TARGETS WILL CONTINUE TO BE SLOW Governments across Australia spend $25billion each year on programs aimed at closing the gap between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians. There has been some movement, but progress is very slow. Reconciliation is about changing this context; laying the foundations

RAPs ARE DRIVING SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CHANGE • There are 480 organisations with RAPs with more than 2million employees or students • Employment • 25, 044 jobs pledged: 18, 972 filled • Indigenous Business • $58 million spent with accredited Indigenous businesses • Education • $14.7 million provided for education scholarships • Pro-bono • $15.1 million worth of services provided to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations • Cultural competency • 213, 446 employees will undertake cultural competency training
