What is an Argument? In writing, an argument is carefully stated claim supported by reasons and evidence.
Parts of an Argument A strong argument is made up or two important parts: • A Claim • Support
What is Support? Support or the reasons and evidence that help to prove the claim. Always try to give at least 3 good reasons (or evidence). Types of Evidence used in Persuasive Writing: • Eye-opening statistics • Compelling antidotes or stories • Relevant examples • Logical Conclusions • Expert Opinions
Counter-argument • A strong argument also raises possible objections to the claim and offers a counter-argument. • A counter-argument is an argument made to prove that the opposing viewpoint is wrong by attacking one of their supports or reasons.
