Background information • Born in December 23, 1642 • He was a premature baby and wasn’t expected to live and his dad died 3 months after he was born. • His mom got remarried, so he ended up living with his grandparents. • He went to Cambridge University and graduated even though he failed his scholarship exam due to the fact he is lacking his skills on Geometry. • He went back to the farm because his mom believes he will take over soon.
When the apple falls • Sir Isaac Newton was studying while suddenly an apple from a tree fell on the grass. • He wonders why it fell on the ground and what force is acting upon it • He believes all matter are attracted to each other and it’s the reason why the moon is orbiting around earth. • Since he can’t get the measurements for Earth he can’t prove his calculations, so he quits for 15 years.
Spectrum and Telescope • Sir Isaac Newton used a triangular prism and refracted light into it to see all the colors in the spectrum (aka a rainbow) • He used another prism to collect the spectrum and put them together which makes a white spot. • He went back to Cambridge University and he invented a telescope that was more powerful than any telescope that has been made before him. • Modern telescope is influenced by Isaac Newton’s telescope. • His telescope got him into the Royal Society when Newton presented it to them.
The Three Laws of Motion • Sir Isaac Newton made the Principia mathematica (the three laws of motion) • First law of motion states that when an object is at rest it stays at rest unless it experiences an unbalanced force. • Second law of motion states that the force equals the mass times the acceleration. • Third law of motion states that for every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force. • These laws are considered the most important influences in science.
Newton’s Influences • Sir Isaac Newton was knighted by the queen which was a really great honor for him. • He died in March 20, 1727 • Through the years, His discoveries gave two of the greatest scientists of all time an important role. • Charles Darwin who gave the idea of evolution. • Albert Einstein made the theory of relativity.
