ALPHONSE THE CAMEL My sad story is hopefully going to help you to develop your ability to become more analytical when looking at causes What is a CAUSATION?
TASK 1 • Read Alphonse’s story. • Identify all of the causal factors contributing to Alphonse’s tragic death.
By Content By Time HOW CAN WE ANALYSE CAUSES By Role By Importance
We can analyse causes by TIME • Long Term Causes Something that is in place a long time before an event and builds up over time. • Short Term Causes Things that happen a short time before an event takes place. • A Trigger Cause Something that makes an event happen at a particular time and place.
Some causes can be described as CATALYSTS What is the difference between a Catalyst and a trigger?
TASK 2 Organise your cause cards in time. Identify short and long term causes What was the trigger? Can you find a catalyst?
We can also analyse causes by IMPORTANCE • NECESSARY CAUSES Are essential for making an event happen. If this cause was not there Alphonse would not have died when he did. • PRECONDITIONAL CAUSES Could be taken out of the story and Alphonse still would have collapsed and died.
To help you with this think If I took this cause away how might Alponse’s story be different?
