  2. Where did they live? • The Ojibwa lived in the UP, north east of the LP and southern Canada. They also lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

  3. Homes • They lived in wigwams. They were made out of birch bark. They looked tall, different colored and long. Wigwams are small. The frame is shaped like a cone. The women had to build the houses when they moved.

  4. Clothing • Men’s clothing • The men wore breech clothes , leggings , moccasins , cloaks, ponchos. • The men’s clothing was made out of cloth , string and yarn. • Women’s clothing • Women wore moccasins , cloaks, ponchos , cloth blouses , jackets. • The women’s clothing was made out of cloth , string and yarn and had fancy bead work on it.

  5. Food • What did they eat? They ate bear, fish, deer, corn, beans, squash, fruit, wild rice, maple sugar, dog, nuts and lamb. • How did they get their food? They used traps, bown arrows, fish hooks, spears, nets, traps, fishing rods, light sticks and clubs.

  6. Roles of Men and Women • What were the jobs of men? They were hunters , warriors and fishermen. They made artwork like birch bark canoes. They made nice music out of grass flutes. • What were the jobs of women? They did farming , child care and cooking. They made birch bark baskets, music and knocked wild rice.

  7. Roles of Children • What did children do? • Boys learned how to throw arrows perfectly. • Girls learned how to make houses and learned how to make baskets and canoes. • They did activities like laccross , reading , arrow throwing games and making bags out of beads and string.

  8. Special Trade or Skill • The Ojibwa grew tabbaco they used it to smoke. They played special sports. The boys learned how to make traps. The girls learned how to cut birch bark without killing the tree.

  9. Interesting Facts • The Ojibwa put their dogs out on guard at night. • Most Ojibwa people speak English. • The boys learned how to throw arrows at a very young age. • The girls did most of the work at a very young age.
