Lassen happens to be his name, Vernon . • He was a farmer , and his family owned the land the school is built on . • His family then donated the land to the district in the 1960s , therefore naming the school after him. • The Lassen Family farmed cotton and corn more than any other item.

  18. History of area • Lassen is located at 909 W . Vineyard Phoenix, Arizona 85041 • RSD was established in Phoenix, Arizona in 1912 • The first Roosevelt school was the Broadway school , it was located at the corner of 7th street and Southern Ave.

  19. History of area • There were very few roads in the district’s early days. • Southern Avenue did not exist and students reached the school by walking or on burros

  20. History of area • The population increased rapidly and twelve –room addition was built in 1921 • The increasing population made it necessary to provide more classrooms .
