Possessive adjectives (Study guide) • Possessive adjectives tell what belongs to someone. • Fill in the chart with the Spanish possessive adjectives: • Notice that su/sus can mean his, her, their, or your (belonging to either Ud. or Uds.). • Ex: Los estudiantes no tienen su tarea. • The students do not have their homework. • Sara habla con sus amigas cada día. • Sara talks with her friends each day.
The possessive adjectives mi, tu, & su must agree in _______________ with the nouns they describe (what is “owned”). • The possessive adjective nuestro (and vuestro, too) must agree in _______________ and _______________ with the noun it describes (what is “owned”). • Examples: • La clase de español es mi clasefavorita. • Spanish class is my favorite class. • Llevomiszapatosfavoritos. Remember that mi, tu, & su must agree only in number. • But nuestro has to agree in both gender and number.
Remember that these are possessive adjectives. You have to check gender & number and make sure the adjectives agrees!
Diminutives (Study guide) • A diminutive indicates something “small” or “little”. It can also be used to show affection. • In Spanish, you can drop the final vowel of a word and add the suffix __________ to make it a diminutive. • Ex: hermana → hermanita sister → littlesister • perros→ perritosdogs → puppies • abuelo→ abuelitograndfather → grandpa Activity – Change the following words into their diminutive forms. • abuela ________________ • gatitos ________________ • Miguel ________________ • niñas ________________ • Eva ________________ • Juana ________________ • Special note: if a form of –ito will immediately follow the letter c, you must first change the c to qu. • chica → chiqu + ita = chiquita Paco → Paqu + ito = Paquito
