  2. KanchipuramSilk is a special type of silk saree mainly made in the Kanchipuram region of Tamil Nadu, India. But in recent years Kanchipuram silk saree of Kerala have been recognized for their lustre,quality and model .There are more than 25 silk and cotton yarn industries and about 60 dyeing units in the state. • It is believed that Kanchi silk weavers were the descendants of Sage Markanda, the master weaver of Gods who had woven tissue from lotus fiber. • The kanchipuram silk saree of Kerala are weaved from pure mulberry silk thread which comes from South India and the zari comes from Gujarat.

The border color and design are usually quite different from the body.Thepallu(hanging part from the shoulders) is first woven separately then delicately joined to the Kanchipuram silk saris of Kerala in a zig – zag line. In a Kanchipuram Silk Sari, body and border are woven separately and then interlocked together and the joint is woven so strongly that the border never detaches.This unique feature and the heavy weight of the silk saree differentiates the kanchipuram silk sarees of Kerala from the others. • There had been various time consuming and less commercial ways to make these saree and the business started declining. The advancement in technology had made kanchipuramsaree more special as with the use of ICT the time taken is reduced as well as different new and complex patterns are now easily made on the saree. These saree contain rich woven pallu showing paintings of Raja Ravi Varma and epics of Mahabharata and Ramayana.
