  1. Alternate-Form Reliability Quintin Molina AED 615 – October 23, 2006

  2. Alternate Form Reliability • The degree to which two or more versions of the same test correlate with one another. • Process – a given function is tested more than once over time and it is important to have more than one version of a given instrument and to show that these different versions are reasonably equivalent. • (www.nationalmssociety.org/MUCS_glossary1.asp)

  3. Example of Alternate-Form Reliability • If memory is tested through the learning of a list of words, follow-up testing should use a different list of words of equivalent difficulty. • If the same list of words were used on the second testing, scores would be inflated due to the subject’s prior knowledge of the words. • (www.nationalmssociety.org/MUCS_glossary1.asp)

  4. AFR - Value to Survey Research • The correlation of scores on pairs of alternate forms for the same examinees provides another measure of consistency or reliability. • www.ericdigests.org/2002-2/reliability.htm

  5. Qualitative Usefulness • Heavily favored in the qualitative based studies due to the fact that it lends itself neatly to the measure of consistency.
