Academic Core • All students will schedule five courses in the academic core. Please note that data such as classroom academic performance, PSSA Mathematics performance, and teacher recommendation will be considered for placement in Accelerated Math 7, as this rigorous course prepares students to take Algebra I as an 8th grader.
Middle Core • Every student will spend two periods each day in middle core classes. Most of the courses offered have a duration of twelve weeks (one trimester). Every student is required to take physical education/health and five other trimester courses. Performance music students (band, chorus, chorus/band, strings, and strings/chorus) will be able to schedule two trimester courses in addition to physical education/health and their performance music course. Additionally, please note Keyboarding is a prerequisite for Keyboarding Applications 7**.
World Languages • Please note that the world language that a student chose in sixth grade will be the language of study through 8th grade.
Special Scheduling Situations • Please note the following regarding special scheduling situations: • If a student is taking a math course not listed on the course selection sheet, please note that course on the blank line in the Academic Core section. • Students requiring learning support seminar will be scheduled by their case manager. • Students requiring gifted support seminar will be scheduled by their gifted coordinator.
Student Assignments According to Board Policy 8301, the building principal shall determine classroom assignments for students in order to develop balanced classes. If parents wish to bring to the principal’s attention any special needs of the child, they may do so in writing or e-mail without requesting a specific teacher. Information shall be provided prior to June 1st so that consideration may be given to the request.
Final Thoughts • Please contact your counselor, Mrs. Pundai, with any questions. • We are not scheduling exploratory courses at this time. • Course selection sheets must be returned to your homeroom teacher on Wednesday, May 28, 2014.
