Impacts of irresponsible land investment • Displacement of farmers • Conversion of land to non-food use e.g. biofuel, etc • Loss of biodiversity due to introduction of unsustainable package of production technologies and inequitable marketing arrangements • Producers alienated from the value-chain • Impediments for sustainable and responsible agricultural investment: • Conflicting laws (APECO vs CARPER/IPRA, etc) / absence of sound policy on land rights • Violation of FPIC / absence of transparent process • Lack of legal support for affected farmers / imbalanced negotiations / bargaining power
