Women’s Christian Temperance Union • Fought to outlaw alcohol • 18th Amendment made it illegal to manufacture, transport, or sell alcohol in U.S. • It was not illegal to drink alcohol
Did prohibition work? • It DID reduce the amount of alcohol consumed • Enforcing it was almost impossible • Smuggled it from Canada and Mexicobootleggers. • A doctor could prescribe alcohol
