  4. Why do they need help?

  5. Today we are going to learn • about conditions for children • in Kenya and Uganda who • want to go to school.

  6. Think about where you were • this morning

  7. It’s very different from a typical • home in Kenya

  8. And a typical kitchen

  9. And think about how you got to school today

  10. In Africa almost all children walk have to walk to school • It can take them over an hour to • walk to school

  11. And it can be a long way and very hot

  12. And when they get to school the classrooms are falling apart

  13. Children have to sit on the floor because there are not enough desks

  14. Sometimes there are no classrooms • so they have lessons under a tree

  15. And if they do not have enough books • they have to share or go without

  16. Many children are taught in • classrooms like this

  17. Children in Africa are desperate • to go to school and learn

  18. Irine wants to be a nurse when she grows up

  19. Why would it be hard for • Irine to learn at school?

  20. Lessons are cancelled and students sent home when it rains

  21. Hard to hear if it is windy or raining

  22. Hard to concentrate • if you don’t • have a desk • and a chair • to sit on

  23. Cannot practice writing when you • do not have any books

  24. Would you want to go to school • if it looked like this?

  25. That’s why Build Africa • needs your help

  26. Build Africa wants to build • safe classrooms

  27. So that children can learn properly with correct equipment

  28. Sitting at their own desks

  29. And with enough textbooks so that • they do not have to share
