  5. Superficial Muscles Lateral Compartment Anterior Compartment • Tibialis anterior • Extensor hallicus longus • Extensor digitorum longus • Peroneus (fibularis) tertius • Peroneus (fibularis) longus • Peroneus (fibularis) brevis

  6. Tibialis Anterior O- Lateral condyle and lateral surface of upper half of tibia, interosseous membrane & crural fascia I- medial and plantar surface of 1st MT & the medial cuneiform Axn- dorsiflexion, inversion Innervation- Deep peroneal nerve- L4, L5 BV-Anterior tibial artery

  7. Extensor Hallicus Longus O- Medial surface of fibula, ant. interosseous membrane, & crural fascia I-Base of the great toe, dorsal surface Axn- extends big toe, assists in dorsiflexion and inversion Innervation- Deep peroneal nerve- L5, S1 BV- Anterior tibial artery

  8. Extensor digitorum longus O- Lateral condyle of the tibia, upper ¾ of fibula, & the interosseous membrane I- Distal phalanges of 4 lesser toes Axn- extends 4 lesser digits, assists in dorsiflexion and eversion Innervation- Deep peroneal nerve- L5, S1 BV- Anterior tibial artery

  9. Peroneus (Fibularis Tertius) O- distal 1/3 of anterior fibula, Interosseous membrane I- dorsal surface of base of the 5th MT Axn- dorsiflexion, assists in eversion Innervation-Deep peroneal nerve L5, S1 BV- Anterior tibial artery

  10. Peroneus (fibularis) longus O- Head & upper two thirds of Lateral surface of fibula I- Lateral aspect/base of the first MT; Medial cuneiform, plantar surface Axn- Eversion, weak plantar flexion Innervation- Superficial peroneal nerve L4, S1, S2 BV- Peroneal (fibular) artery

  11. Peroneus (fibularis) brevis O- Distal 2/3 lateral fibula, Intermuscular septum I- lateral surface & base of 5th MT Axn- Eversion; assists in plantar flexion Innervation-Superficial peroneal (fibular) nerve L4, S1, S2 BV- Peroneal artery

Innervations Saphenous nerve – sensory branch of the femoral nerve that supplies cutaneous innervation to medial leg Superficial peroneal (fibular )nerve- divides into dorsal medial and intermediate branches Deep peroneal (fibular) nerve- divides into tarsal branch and cutaneous branch SuralNerve
