Compare- to describe the relationship between two or more numbers Ex: When we say 4 is greater than 2, we make a comparisonof 4 and 2. In other words, we told how 4 and 2 are related.
Comparison Symbols < means less than > means greater than =means equal to *Think of the >, < as hungry alligator mouths. They always want to eat the bigger number.
Reading Comparison Expressions 4 < 5 four is less than five 3 = 3 three is equal to three 9 > 8 nine is greater than eight
Comparing Two Numbers Make a place value chart to help compare the two numbers. H T O 8 1 2 7 We can see that 81 is bigger than 27 by looking in the tens place. 81 > 27 or 27 < 81
