The Challenge! • To engage with as many residents and particularly young residents as possible • To consult with our residents on service improvements • To reach out with under involved residents – particularly residents under 25 • To target ‘hot spot’ areas (where ASB relatively high) • Consultation with Patch Panels identified who, where and what….
How did we achieve this? • 12 Fun Days took including an Xmas Fun Day • Activities ranged from bouncy castles, football games, treasure hunts, face painting, potting plants and graffiti t-shirts. • Free food for everyone.
Who else was involved? • Anglia Maintenance Services (Repairs Contractors) • Norfolk Family Learning team • Freebridge, Cotman and Peddars Way HA • Safer Neighbourhood Teams. • MPs Chloe Smith and Chris Mole
Who did we engage with? • Spoke to 156 tenants (though estimate 700 residents came along.) • 87 young people aged between 7-20 completed a survey.
What did the Young People tell us? • 31% would like to organise a young persons group/club • 41% would like Wherry to continue to organise annual fun days • 27% would like to organise regular activities which will be organised by them and their friends • 77% said they would like to be involved activities to improve their neighbourhood.
That there is an appetite amongst Young People to ‘get involved’ in issues such as: Improving their neighbourhood ASB issues affecting young people. We have set a date in Feb 10 at The Open, a Young Persons’ venue in Norwich. How can they get involved in Estate Inspections? Discuss how ASB can affect Young People. What will encourage young people to get involved? What did the Young People tell us?
What did residents tell us? • Anecdotal evidence of “bringing communities together.” • Improved residents’ sense of pride in their estate • Heightened awareness of services available • Residents pleased to see Wherry taking an interest in their estate
What did we learn? • Cost of delivery came in under budget • Plus, we have identified savings for future activities. • We engaged with groups that don’t usually get involved, particularly under 25s
What did we learn? • Activities need to be tailored to fit with the resident population • Getting residents involved made a significant difference to attendance at events and therefore impact.
