  2. Contains over 4000 chemicals some of which are called “tars” are known to cause cancer • Causes caners of the mouth, lips, throat and lungs • Second hand smoke can cause similar effects in non-smokers • Contains nicotine a very powerful and addictive drug Cigarette Smoke

  3. Nicotine affects the body, can speed up coronary heart disease • Nicotine withdrawal symptoms are experienced once you become addicted eg. Anxiety, irritability etc • Contains “soot” which gets trapped in the lining of the lungs, irritating the lungs • Inflammation of the lungs • Reduces efficiency of gaseous exchange Cigarette Smoke

  4. Contains Carbon Monoxide which reduces the oxygen carrying capacity of haemoglobin Cigarette Smoke
