Preparing for STAAR Where do we go from here?
After the benchmark…Use data as a formative assessment to drive instruction • Teachers analyze Aware data. (If you need support, please let me know.) • Determine what areas of weakness to focus on for Accelerated Instruction and STAAR Tutorials. • Follow the Lead4ward example. What TEKS will have the greatest impact on a student’s score? • Collaborate with your grade level department and plan accordingly. • Prepare to give student feedback and student self-analysis.
How do we accomplish this?Student Feedback • ASCD Educational Leadership: “7 Things to Remember about Feedback”
Students must take responsibility for what they know and what they don’t know.
How do we accomplish this? Student Self-Analysis • Graphing TEKS, Skills, Genre • http://www.nces.ed.gov/nceskids/createagraph • Lead4ward “Checkpoint Charlie” • Data Tools - “Analyzing Learning Standards “ • http://lead4ward.com/resources/ • IQ Released Tests – subject/grade
“Revisiting” the benchmarkActivenotpassive • Teacher and student determine WHAT TEKS or genres need to be revisited using Aware data and student self-analysis. • During Accelerated Instruction/STAAR Tutorials group students based on TEKS, skill, genre. • Give group brand new copies!!! • Students work together to revisit material. Teacher is the facilitator and guide only. • Teacher checks answers when group is finished and all work has been shown. • Update graph or Checkpoint Charlie to show progress.
Reflection… • Purposeful talk • Critical writing –journal entry, exit slip
