  2. Problem: 46 - 27 Build 46 on the top portion of the Subtraction Mat. How many tens? Record it. How many ones? Record it. How much is that?

  4. Build 27 on the center portion of the Subtraction Mat. How many tens? Record it. How many ones? Record it. How much is that?

  5. 4 6 - 2 7

  6. Are there enough ones in the top number to match with the ones in the bottom number? (no) Exchange a ten into ten ones and place them on the ones portion of the mat. Record the exchange.

  8. Match the ones on the small sheet..

  10. Pull the ones from the top of the Mat to the bottom and record.

  12. Match the tens on the small sheet.

  13. 3 1 6 4 6 - 2 7 9

  14. Pull the ten from the top of the Mat to the bottom and record.

  15. 3 1 6 4 6 - 2 7 1 9
