  4. FEATURES OF 10 KINDS OF ARTICLES Letter • Letters are used mostly for communication, sending applications, documents etc. • Embossed covers are sold at the Post Office. • We accept if the customer uses privately manufactured covers also for posting letters.

  5. FEATURES OF 10 KINDS OF ARTICLES • Letter…. • Letters can be of the following shapes: 1. In Roll form. 2. In other than Roll Form. • Maximum weight: 2 KG

  6. Inland Letter Card (ILC) • Letter cards are more popularly known as Inland Letters. • Used for communication. • We accept privately manufactured ILC also, if it is of the same type and size of the departmentally manufactured ones. • Maximum weight : 5 Grams

  7. Post card • Postcard is the most economical means of communication • We accept privately manufactured Post Cards also provided that they are of same size and consistency of departmentally manufactured ones. • Reply Post card facility is available for the customer who wants to provide an immediate means of communication to the addressee

  8. Competition Post Cards are used by the customers who wish to take part in the media competitions.

  9. Book Packet • Book Packet articles may contain any printed matter, greetings, invitations, circulars, horoscopes, pictures, maps, drawings etc. but not written communication. • This is economical compared to letter post. • It may be superscribed as ‘Book Post’ or ‘Book Packet’ to differentiate this from first class mails. (If it is not superscribed need not be taxed)

  10. Book Packet…. Should not be closed against inspection of contents. Maximum weight: 5 KG

  11. Sample packet • Samples of seeds, medicines, cloth etc • Not saleable items • Maximum weight : 2 KG

  12. Printed Book • Any book packet containing printed books without advertisements, like text books and story books, will be coming under this category. • The book should not be a periodically published one. Packet should be superscribed ‘Printed Books.’ • Maximum weight: 5 KG

  13. Periodical Any book packet containing any periodical publication will be coming under this category. The publication so posted should have the title registered with the Registrar of Newspapers for India New Delhi (RNI-New Delhi) Registration number should be printed on the cover page or wrapper. Maximum weight: 5 KG

Registered Newspaper A Registered Newspaper is the one which is published at regular intervals not more than 31 days, registered with RNI New Delhi with or without advertisements When such Newspaper is registered with the Department of Posts for availing economical transmission by post, we call it as Registered Newspaper License is valid for three years

Registered Newspaper… • To avail the facility of concession tariff the following are the conditions. • Published not more than 31 days • Should have bonafide subscribers • Title should have been registered with RNI • Renewal of license is to be done in the month of November. If not late fee of Rs.50 will be charged.

  16. Blind literature packet • Literature, CDs, Disks for the Blind • Free postage except air surcharge • Maximum weight: 7 KG

  17. Parcel • Useful for transmission of goods • Economical compared to letter • Maximum weight: • URP 4 KG • BOs 10KG • Other 20KG

  19. Modes of Payment of Postage • By affixing Postage stamps • By paying cash at counters • By printing Frank mark on the articles by means of franking machines • Without prepayment of postage • Book Now Pay Later (BNPL)

  21. Franking Machine • A customer may obtain license for a franking machine from Divisional Supdt and purchase Franking Machine. • Amount of license fee is Rs.375 for the period of five years. • Every licensee will be issued “Window Delivery Ticket” for Identification of licensee’s agent.

  22. How to use FM by customer? • He has to pay advance money for the amount of postage required by him. • He franks postal articles in lieu of postage stamps. • Every franked article should bear Value Die, License Die and optional Slogan Die (for advertising his product.) • The machine have two meters-Ascending and descending (credit).

  23. How to use FM by customer? • To reset the machine when the amount at credit falls to Rs.100 FM is brought to PO. • Rebate of 3% given, on the previous consumption, if the amount exceeds Rs.5000. • Franked articles can be posted at one or two offices specified in the license. • It must be handed over at the counter. • A maximum number of three postings are allowed in a day.

  24. How to use FM by customer? • With every dispatch following documents must • be presented : • Franking Machine Record book. • Franking Machine Dispatch slip. • Window Delivery Ticket. • Franked articles should be bundled according to • postage.

  25. Remotely Managed Franking Machine (RMFM) • RMFM in place of Electronic Franking Machine is introduced w.e.f 16.8.2010 on new technology with security features • Generation of 2D barcode with frank impression • Elimination of human intervention for uploading the credit in FM

Remotely Managed Franking Machine (RMFM) • Funds are secured through special device known as Postal Security Device (PSD) which is not open to repair. – It replaces mechanical seals on FM • The amount for uploading the credit in FM may be deposited in any branch of SBI through net banking or any PO having e-payment facility.

  27. Remotely Managed Franking Machine (RMFM) • Frank impression shall be in blue color and will indicate • class of article, • PIN code, • authentication code, • date of frank, • mail item number, • license identifier number, • frank value, • 2D bar code.

Remotely Managed Franking Machine (RMFM) • 2D bar code will have important information encoded therein • Ascending and descending meter readings • Class of article • Number of items • PIN code number • Value of frank • License identifier number • 2D bar code can be scanned to check the genuineness of the frank impression

  29. Remotely Managed Franking Machine (RMFM) • Facility for suspension/cancellation of license will be available in FM • For refilling payment to be done at SBI branches through electronic funds transfer and Post Offices having e –payment facility

  30. Remotely Managed Franking Machine (RMFM) • Migration plan for phasing out the electronic FM • FM which are older than 5 years will not be renewed • FM which are less than 5 years will be allowed to continue till completion of a period of 5 years or up to 30 6 2013 whichever is earlier
