Korean Network of the Bone and Joint Decade Key projects in 2009 Title : Arthritis Campaign with ‘WHO and the Bone & Joint Decade’ Action Summary (2003~ Present, Arthritis Campaign is held annually on World Arthritis Day during the second week of October) [For the Public] Signature-seeking campaign in support of the ‘WHO and the Bone & Joint Decade’ Festival Surveys on various aspects of the arthritis to rheumatologists, patients, and the general public. Discussion of government policy : participants include patient communities, government officials (Ministry for Health Welfare and Family affairs, Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service etc), physicians, private general practitioner, orthopedics and rheumatologists. [For Patients] On arthritis day : over 500 patients and general public participants (To perform activities such as “Experiencing the pain of arthritis patients”) Patients Education Material Production : Video, Guidebook (disease, medicines, insurance) [For the Media] Press Releases : To be published in major media (TV, newspaper, online, etc) Surveys on various aspects of the arthritis disease - Current status of Korean rheumatoid arthritis(RA) patients/ Current status of RA patients’ disability classifications / Current status of RA patient’s quality of life and food supplement use / Current status of education regarding RA Goodwill Ambassador Activities : Patients education video production, Media interview, Cooperate events. Impact Greatly improved RA patients’ lives through consistent government policy support with WHO Bone & Joint Decade Future Development BJD GLOBAL NETWORK CONFERENCE October 23 – 24, 2009, WASHINGTON DC, USA Key patients group activities and outcome The campaign is to help patients gain a better understanding of the importance of arthritic disorders and becoming better informed about prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation. Increased public awareness of arthritis through Media PR conducted on patients. (patient interviews, documentaries etc) Key interactions with ISC, other NANs, regional groups, governments * Achieved policy changes that have brought tangible benefits to patients through direct communication with health-related government officials. • Key development plan for 2010 • Patients Education Material Production • Media PR for increasing public awareness of arthritis (focus on prevention and treatment) • Annual Arthritis Campaign
