Michigan’s Voices for Volunteerism: A 10-City Listening Tour • Identify critical issues in communities • How volunteerism can address issues • Listening Tour instrumental in: • MCSC state service plan • Volunteer Michigan application
Volunteer Michigan Project Goals • Increase the capacity of volunteer connector organizations • Increase, among diverse populations, volunteerism in Michigan • Strengthen community non-profits to ensure sustainability of volunteer mobilization • Increase volunteer engagement on National Days of Service
Volunteer Michigan boosts capacity • Capacity is also increased as a result of: • Hands On Connect – a full lifecycle volunteer tracking, management, and reporting platform
Volunteer Michigan Objectives • Increase: • number of new volunteers participating in activities focused on improving health and public safety (Target: 1750/250 in yr 1) • number of retained volunteers (Target: 525/75) • Replicable collaborative community models (Target: 7/1) • Volunteer participation on National Days of Service (Target: 35,000) • Engage • Highly skilled volunteers (Target: 175/25)
Volunteer Michigan:Year One • Roll-out of Hands On Connect • Grantees will focus on: • Technology integration • Assessment • Planning; system development; training • Working with each collaborative member to develop 3-year plan for volunteer engagement
Volunteer Michigan:Years 2 & 3 • Collaboratives implement volunteer engagement plans • Increase collaborative membership • Meet higher benchmarks
Eligibility • Who is eligible to apply? • Intended targeted audience – volunteer connector organizations -- whose mission is directly related to connecting individuals with volunteer opportunities. • Volunteer connectors – support organizations and volunteer coordinators in utilizing these volunteers. • Volunteer connectors – connect volunteers with other community organizations (organizations other than the volunteer connector agency itself). • Volunteer centers and Retired and Senior Volunteer Programs are prototypical volunteer connector organizations.

Timeline, Review, and Selection • RFP released on Friday, August 6, 2010 • Technical assistance webinar 10 a.m., Monday, August 16, 2010 • Intent to apply form due to MCSC by 5 p.m., Friday, August 27, 2010
Timeline, Review, and Selection • Applications will be due to MCSC by 5 p.m., Monday, September 13, 2010 • Reviewed for: requirements, adherence to guidelines, and priorities; Also geographic diversity and diversity of approaches
Timeline, Review, and Selection • Review and approval of applications • Panel – internal and external reviewers – Sept/Oct 2010 • Board review – funding recommendations for all funded applicants will be submitted to the MCSC Board of Commissioners for approval
Timeline, Review, and Selection • Applicants will be informed of funding decisions on or before Friday, October 29, 2010 • Grantee start date of Wednesday, December 1, 2010
