Sharing the results of high-resolution ocean general circulation model under a multi-discipline frame work-a review of OFES activities Yukio Masumoto
Outline • Introduction • Model description • OFES runs and outputs • Analyses of physical aspect using OFES results • Analyses of biogeochemical/ecosystem aspects using OFES results
Introduction • OFES (OGCM for the Earth Simulator) • Project of Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) • Consider the limitation of high-resolution modeling effort • Share the invaluable output among physical, geochemical and ecosystem research
Model description • Modular Ocean Model version 3 (MOM3) developed at GFDL/NOAA • 3D primitive eq. in spherical coordinates under Boussinesqand hydrostatic approximation • 75°S to 75°N, 54 vertical level, etopo2 • K-profile parameterization(Large et al. 1994) • CFC- concerned
Model runs and outputs • 50-year climatological runsapplied NCEP/NCAR reanalysis mean from 1950-1998. • After spin-up, the model is driven by daily mean wind stresses obtain from NCEP/NCAR reanalysis for a period from 1950-2008.
